Today we will discuss the Bounce Rate. And we will also discuss how you can reduce the Bounce Rate of a site.
Bounce Rate is one of the things that plays a significant role in the ranking of a blog or website. If you do On Page SEO and Off-Page SEO correctly, you can bring your site to Google’s first page.
There are many sites on the first page of Google. Your goal will be to get to the top. Whether you can get to the top or not depends on two things. One is the Bounce Rate, and the other is the Average Watch Time. In a word, a website ranking depends a lot on the Bounce Rate.
We can call Google a kind of robot. Like robots, Google is pre-programmed. Google monitors a site the way it is commanded. The Bounce Rate is a significant part of the Google program.
What is Bounce Rate?
Bounce Rate is a measure of how many visitors to a site didn’t click on another link while reading an article.
Suppose a visitor comes to your site by searching Google or using a link. And he just read the article he searched for. He did not click on any other link while reading the article or after reading the article. That is, the visitor bounced your site.
For example, when a ball falls from above, and then when the ball falls to the ground, it does not settle at once. The ball bounces to the ground many times at first.
That is, the ball bounces off the ground after falling from above. Like the ball, a visitor comes to your site and goes back without clicking anywhere. That is, a visitor bounced from your site.
One thing needs to be clarified. Many people think that Bounce Rate and Exit Rate are the same things. But this idea is wrong. Bounce Rate and Exit Rate are not the same things.
The exit rate will be counted when visitors click on a link to other articles, open another page of your site, and close the browser from that second page.
How to check Bounce Rate?
The process of checking the Bounce Rate is straightforward. First, you need to add your site to Google Analytics. Then when you log in to Google Analytics, you will see your site’s Bounce Rate and Average Watch Time on its home page.
Notice the image above. Here is the Bounce Rate and Session Duration or Average Watch Time of a site from Google Analytics.
What should be the Bounce Rate?
Suppose if the total number of visitors to your blog or website is 100 and 50 of them come out after reading an article found in Google search results without clicking on any other article, then the bounce rate/bounce rate of your blog or website will be 50%.
Below is a table of Bounce Rate –
Less than 30% = very good31% – 55% = good56% – 70% = not very goodMore than 70% = very bad |
Bounce Rate is usually lower on e-commerce sites, for example – between 25% and 30%. But the amount of Bounce Rate is higher in blog sites.
Why does Bounce Rate increase?
(i) Lack of information as expected: If a visitor doesn’t like your article, he will bounce the site. If your article does not match the title, then visitors will be disappointed to read the article. And will bounce from your site.
(ii) Bad Design: Site design is a significant issue. Many visitors leave the site after seeing the bad design. If the design is not right, you will never be able to retain visitors.
A visitor will first look at the design of your site, then look at your article. So first of all, you need to ensure a beautiful design.
Many times developers use CSS, JS minify, etc. to make the site faster. Excessive customization spoils the design of the site.
(iii) Lack of User-Friendly Interface: If the site is not user friendly, then visitors will bounce from the site. Visitors do not use the site unless there is an easy option to navigate from one page to another.
The above reasons are the main reasons for increasing the Bounce Rate on the site.
What should we do to reduce the Bounce Rate?
Bounce Rate cannot be reduced by changing any setting. There are some steps you can take to reduce the Bounce Rate. Hopefully, if you follow the methods correctly, you can reduce the Bounce Rate of your site.
(i) Good Article: Always remember that good content or article is the heart of a good site. There is no substitute for a good article to reduce the bounce rate of a site.
If visitors are happy to read an article on your site, they will naturally want to read other articles. Useful articles can reduce the bounce rate of the site.
Many people pay more attention to SEO. As a result, not much attention is paid to the article. SEO is essential, but articles are equally important.
And according to the current algorithms of Search Engines, content is at the top. If your content is good, then surely, you will rank well in search engines.
When you will write an article, keep the following points in mind –
- The article should be informative enough
- Tough and incomprehensible words should be avoided
- Adequate pictures must be used
- On-Page SEO must be done properly
So if you can write quality articles, the number of visitors to your site will increase. And the Bounce Rate will decrease.
(ii) Site Loading Speed: The loading speed and bounce rate of the site are inextricably linked. If the loading speed of the site is high, then it annoys the visitors. They will not want to go from one page to another.
Often, the site’s loading speed is high, so it takes a long time for the first page of the site to load correctly. As a result, visitors leave the site before the first page loads.
Use a lightweight theme to keep site loading speed fast. Images must be well compressed before use. Compressed images play a leading role in increasing the speed of the site.
Good quality hosting plays a vital role in speeding up the loading speed of the site. Good hosting also increases the security of the site.
(iii) Good Design: Good design is one of the ways to retain the user. If the design is right, then it easily attracts visitors.
If the design is beautiful, visitors will love to visit the site. This will help you to keep your site’s Bounce Rate low.
(iv) Friendly user interface/navigation: Friendly user interface and navigation are essential for a website.
If your site is user-friendly, then visitors can easily visit the site. This will reduce the bounce rate of your site.
(v) Use of related articles: Provide links to all other related articles in all articles on your site.
Suppose you write an article on “What is SEO.” You already have articles on On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO. So you can use the link of those articles in this new article on SEO.
Using links to such related articles will naturally convert visitors to another page. This will reduce the Bounce Rate of the site.
(vi) Visitor Contest: You can organize various contests on your site. Organizing a contest on the site will increase the number of visitors. This will reduce the bounce rate of the site.
- Quiz Contest
- Social Sharing Contest
- Different types of survey contests
You can organize the above contests on your site.
(vii) Caution in using additional ads: If there are too many ads on your site, then it isn’t enjoyable.
More ads disappoint visitors. Many people use a lot of ads on their sites. Examples include header ad, footer ad, soundbar ad, pop-up ad, and ad after 3-4 paragraph.
In our opinion, avoid headers and pop-up ads and use In Article Ad after 7-8 paragraphs.
This will not ruin the look of your site. And visitors will be able to visit the site beautifully.
= Conclusion =
Always remember that no one can reduce the bounce rate if they want to. And there is no setting for it.
You need to follow some steps to ensure that your site Bounce Rate is always low.
Hopefully, if you follow the steps we discussed above, your Bounce Rate will be lower.
But keep in mind that there is no substitute for good and quality articles. If your content or article is good, then you don’t have to worry about Bounce Rate.
